Joe DiMaggio, the famous New York Yankee baseball player, married Dorothy Arnold, a rising Hollywood star, on Nov. 19, 1939, in San Francisco. It changed both of their lives forever. She gave up stardom and became the mother of Joe DiMaggio Jr. Five years later, they divorced and she faced putting her life and career back together. Joe later married Marilyn Monroe, a look-alike to Dorothy. Dorothy's life is the story of a woman who experienced the glory days of Hollywood as well as the fleeting nature of fame. It is the remarkable story of one woman's triumph over adversity. Contains rare photos of Joe DiMaggio, his son, and his first wife.

The former sister-in-law of baseball great Joe DiMaggio, Joyce Meredith Olson Hadley of Bloomingdale, Illinois, tells this little-known story of the New York Yankee star and his rocky marriage to her sister Dorothy Arnold. Joyce was born in Duluth in 1919, youngest of four daughters of a Northern Pacific Railroad conductor. Both sisters performed in Duluth and Dorothy went on to a stage and screen career in New York City and Hollywood. Joyce was married more than 50 years to Leslie Hadley, had three daughters, and had a 24-year career with District 89 Schools in Chicago's western suburbs. Widowed, she is active at Trinity Lutheran Church, Roselle, Ill., in several school administration groups, and travels extensively.
