The second edition of Essential Golf, the first edition of which completely sold out, has been made even better by author, John Dunigan. Several new drills have been added along with improved explanations and graphics making the instruction even easier to read, comprehend and execute. From the Author:
Ever since I began learning golf, I have been an avid reader of golf instruction books. Unfortunately, most of the instruction books I read only made the game more difficult. As a golf professional, I decided that not only could I do better, but I owed it to other golfers to make the game easier for them. I set out to write a comprehensive guide to learning, practicing, and playing golf that would finally help golfers improve. Do you realize that the national average golf score has not improved in over ten years? And that is in spite of better technology and an overwhelming wealth of golf instruction materials and teaching aids.
The two main reasons for golfers' lack of improvement are (1) they don't know how to practice, and (2) the content of the current body of instruction is so complex and difficult, if not downright wrong, that they just can't do it. Golfers are totally confused because they are constantly bombarded with different and conflicting ideas about how to swing the club. Consequently, they have no model for their swing (or worse yet, the model continually changes). Without a model, golfers are left to guess what's wrong, trying quick fixes and hot tips, and gaining little real improvement. Because they don't know where the club is supposed to be. Essential Golf removes the guessing and shows you where the club needs to be to make the game simpler. The beauty of having a model and sticking to it is that you never need to search any more. You know what's right, and that's a lot better than trying to figure out what's wrong. You simply continue to move toward the model. Every bit closer you get, you hit the ball better.
I spent four years writing this book, constantly refining and rewriting until I felt that the instruction was as clear as I could possibly get it. Each chapter includes mechanical instruction, and then drills to help you learn the mechanics. I tell you what to learn and how to learn it. My goal is to lower the national average golf score with this book. It is designed for beginning to advanced intermediate golfers, although low handicap golfers will also find the instruction enlightening and helpful (maybe even a little controversial). I'm not going to lie to you and tell you that golf is easy. It's not. You're going to have to put your time in. But this book will make golf easier for you. I wish there was a book like this when I was first learning golf.
