Paul Estronza La Violette is a marine scientist living in a large beach house of a small coastal town in Mississippi. Enthralled by the wonders of living on the Gulf Coast, he has written extensively about the life he, his wife, Stella, and Jennie, their dog, have led during the years they have lived there.
As a marine scientist, he sees the world of the coastal marsh and Mississippi Sound in a different way than many people. He talks about the birds and the marsh and the beaches; about the way the waters move in the Sound and the Barrier Islands that lie on its southern edge. In Waiting for the White Pelicans, he talks about these in a personal way, describing in an informal conversational style what he sees and how it affects he and Stella’s life as well as those of the people of the small towns along the Gulf Coast.
