Lisa Lovering was been in law enforcement since 1990, beginning her career as a dispatcher. In 1993 she attended the Minnesota Law Enforcement Training Center (now called the Center for Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement). In 1994, she was promoted to deputy sheriff, becoming the first female officer in the department. In 1997, she received a bachelor's degree in law enforcement from Metro State University in St. Paul. She is a member of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association, Minnesota Association of Women Police, Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association and Concerns of Police Survivors.
