"Hola Mi Amigo" is a Lesson Activities Book and CD of 6 songs for learning Spanish at the beginner level, appropriate for ages 9-65. Songs are melodic pop songs, fully arranged, reminiscent of 1964-1973 classic pop rock (author's favorite band is still the Beatles), each of which focuses on one typical theme and several important grammar points or vocabulary families. The lessons are creative and comprehensive--every possible angle is explored in a fun and challenging series of activities. The Musicapaedia 10-step lesson plan makes for effortless self-paced learning or exciting classroom learning. These songs have been classroom tested by the author and colleagues for over 8 years. There is nothing like this on the market, anywhere. Answer key provided.

Tom Blodget has been a teacher of Spanish and English for 18 years, and has an M.A. in Hispanic Civilization (NYU). An accomplished singer, songwriter and professional musician for over 20 years, Tom has combined his songwriting talents with his classroom goals to create a series of clever, catchy songs that, combined with gracefully sequenced and creatively conceived lesson activities, teach Spanish to those who are genuinely desiring to learn Spanish and need that "something different" to make the learning fun as well as effective.
The first CD/Book package, "Hola Mi Amigo," is for beginners, as is the just-released (2003) "La "Flor de Potosí" book and CD, while "La Feria de Abril" is for intermediate and advanced students. One can learn effectively from just the CD and Book, as full grammar explanations and exercises are included in each--but a formal language course or committed self-study using a comprehensive text would be very helpful. The author also recommends a nearly unabridged Oxford Spanish-English dictionary as well (available from Amazon of course!)Review:
"Mustafá" ("¿Dónde Está Mi Gato?") had all the kids humming! The upper level classes felt neglected and wanted "in". -- Zora Lynch, Tabor Academy
I have a very skeptical group of middle schoolers and they love it! I love the music AND the curriculum. -- Elizabeth Bamberg, Claire Lilienthal K-8 School, San Francisco
I have yet to convince my students the CD is NOT the Beatles in Spanish! -- Angela Lewis, Navarro High School, Geranimo, Texas
I just wanted to tell you thanks. So far my students love the music. I have been using "Como es?" as a review for my second and third year classes. I am also using it in my first year classes. Some of the students get really into it. It is fun to watch them and it is great to hear the positive things they say about the music, especially coming from Junior High kids. I look forward to getting the level II-IV materials and CD! Thanks again, Cami Larsen -- Cami Larsen, middle school teacher, Utah
I've been teaching since 1971 and have always used popular music, but you have carried it to a higher level. -- Barbara Holland Kelley, Livingston Manor Central School, New York
Your songs and lessons were a tremendous hit with my students. They actually begged for them to be played... -- Teddie Clark, Nashville, Tennessee
