About the Author

C. W. Gusewelle has written for The Star since 1955. Besides his newspaper essays, his commentary and short fiction have appeared in Harpers, American Heritage, The Paris Review and other magazines and journals. He received The Paris Review's 1977 Aga Khan Prize for Fiction. Gusewelle is the author of nine books.
