Synopsis

Ernest Thompson Seton [August 14, 1860 – October 23, 1946] was an author (published in the United Kingdom, Canada, and the US), wildlife artist, founder of the Woodcraft Indians in 1902 (renamed Woodcraft League of America). This volume presents a collection of Ernest Thompson Seton's important scientific contributions to the early knowledge of natural history in Manitoba. Seton was famous as a writer of superb nature stories which are widely read to this day, and renowned as an artist and as a lecture. He was a major figure in the American Boy Scout movement and Chief Scout from 1910 to 1915. Although a resident of the United States for most of his life, he got his start in nature observation and writing in Manitoba. It is unfortunate that many of his Canadian admirers today are unaware of his Manitoba beginnings and that almost no one remembers that he homesteaded in what is now Saskatchewan.
