Synopsis

This book tells the story of the Tenth Canadian Infantry Battalion, who, during World War I, acquired a reputation for excellence. Formed in September 1914, the Tenth achieved fame only nine months later, at the Second Battle of Ypres, by participating in the first major attack by Canadian troops. They fought in every major Canadian battle of the Festubert, Mount Sorrel, the Somme, Vimy Ridge, Arleux, Hill 70, Passchendaele, Amiens, the Drocourt-Queant Line, and the Canal Du Nord. In the process the Battalion won two Victoria Crosses, along with a host of other decorations for bravery, including 18 DSOs, 64 MCs, 67 DCMs, and 289 MMs. But the cost was very high. In the course of the war 5,390 men from all parts of Canada served in the 85 per cent were killed or injured.
