In this retelling of the ancient Vietnamese Cinderella folktale, Tam faces the jealousy of her stepmother and stepsister through several incarnations. Tam ultimately regains her position as bride of the king who has loved her as a bird, as a tree, and as herself. Tam and Cam won the 2006 National Parenting Publications Honors Award.

Minh Quoc is an acclaimed writer of many Vietnamese folktales.Review:
Tam and Cam shares elements of the Cinderella story while also incorporating an expanded plot reminiscent in some details of the Arabian Nights. In this case, the half sisters both die, first Tam, the Cinderella figure, at the hands of her wicked stepmother. But she then passes through a series of reincarnations until she becomes herself again and tricks Cam into having herself scalded to death. The art is somewhat stylized, but attractive. It will be especially appreciated in collections serving new immigrants and Vietnamese Americans. --School Library Journal, January 1, 2007
