Debtors Anonymous is a 12 Step Fellowship based on the 12 Steps and 12 Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. It was founded in 1976 in New York City by recovering alcoholics who found that they could not manage their own finances. They concluded that compulsive debting and spending are compulsive-obsessive disorders. Today, D.A. has more than 450 meetings and members in about 20 countries on five continents. Its General Service Office is headquartered in Needham, Mass.
