From the Author:
It seems like every time I went "solo" hiking, I would either run into people I knew from my associations with trail and environmental organizations, or curious fellow hikers who were sincerely concerned for my safety and well being. In every case I would try to explain why "solo" hiking was my preferred method of travel, and that I was well equipped and provisioned for my journey, and had years of experience to guide me safely. I wrote "SOLO SAFE!" to help those intrepid individuals that seek solitude in the backcounrty understand the scope of circumstances one may expect in the wilderness, and enjoy their adventures safely.
About the Author:
Karl Ehlers is a forty-three year old backpacking enthusiast with over 25 years and literally thousands of miles of trail experience under his boots. He has traveled extensively throughtout the contiguous 48 states in search of the "Ultimate Hike". Mr. Ehlers has hiked the AT, the Ozark/Ozark Highlands Trail, the CDT, PCT, and OCT routes primarily solo in that search! Mr Ehlers is an active member of the American Hiking Society, and the Ozark Highland Trails Association, supporting the efforts of those organizations to construct and maintain hiking trails in Missouri and Arkansas. Drawing upon his experience and backcountry skills, he has compiled this book to aid those individuals who desire to hike alone.
