After September 11, famed photographer Ron Haviv, who has covered conflicts in Africa, Russia, the Middle East and the Balkans, embarked on a trip to Afghanistan with writer Ilana Ozernoy (U.S. News & World Report, the San Francisco Chronicle and The Boston Globe).
The photographs capture the period from October 2001, through the liberation of the city of Kabul, to the fall of the Taliban regime at the end of December 2001.

Throughout his career as a photojournalist, author Ron Haviv has convered conflicts and crises in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Persian Gulf, Russia, the Blakans and Afghanistan. He is a contract photographer for Newsweek and his work is work is widely published by magazines throughout the world including Time, Esquire, German Geo, Stern, Paris Match, and The New York Times Magazine.
Haviv's photos have been exhibited at the United Nations, The Newseum, and the Council on Foreign Relations and have earned him several World Press, Picture of the Year, and Overseas Press Club awards as well as the Leica Medal of Excellence. He has contributed to several books, including Blood and Honey: A Balkan War Journal.
