About the Author:

Russell Rawlings grew up less than a mile from Fike High School. When he wasn't actually watching Coach Trevathan's Cyclones play on Friday nights, he was listening anxiously to every down on his trusty transistor.

In 1969 Rawlings started writing sports part time for the local newspaper, The Wilson Daily Times. In 1974, three months prior to his graduation from Fike High School, he started a 10 year stint with the paper as reporter and assistant sports editor. He returned in 1987 to serve for three years as managing editor.

He is a 1978 graduate of Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in Wilson, and worked there for 13 years in development and public relations. He left Barton on the last day of 1999 to write this book.

Rawlings is the son of the late Gloria Thompson Rawlings and Lenox Daniel Rawlings, Jr. He is married to the former Kimberly Jan Jenkins, who first caught his eye as a freshman forward on Elm City High School's state championship basketball team of 1976-77.

The author is a lifelong resident of Wilson, N.C.
