About the Author:

Jane Fishman is an award-winning columnist for the Savannah Morning News. She is a native of Detroit, Michigan. She has taught high school English, written speeches for the American Hospital Association, owned a laundromat and run her own restaurant, the Pita Hut, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Last spring, the Georgia Press Association awarded her first place in the category of serious column writing. She writes a monthly online column about her urban folk garden.

"...her slice-of-life columns, crackling with wise and wry compassion, cut to the heart of an issue, plainly and without a hint of condescension..." -- Creative Loafing, Jim Morekis, March 31, 2001

"Every street and square opens up stories for Jane. She's comfortable with short order cooks and truck drivers, 'street people' and school teachers..." -- Savannah Morning News, Doug Wyatt, March 18, 2001
