Lisa Riegel, English/communications teacher and journalism adviser, proudly releases her first book, No Parent Left Behind: A Handbook for Parents of Struggling Students. "After nearly a decade of watching students struggle to achieve, I identified several common reasons students struggle. Each chapter of the book tackles one of these issues and offers parents realistic ways they can help their children," said Riegel. Riegel previewed the topics in her book in her successful Suburban News column, "No Parent Left Behind." "People contacted me to ask about the book. I sent them manuscripts since the book was not yet completed. One group of women used the manuscript as the foundation for a book club where they could discuss the chapters and share what worked." No Parent Left Behind: A Handbook for Parents of Struggling Students fills a much needed niche in parenting and educational texts. "Most books on helping our children in school focus on skill building in the elementary years. The parenting books focus on behavior. I couldn't find much for parents about helping middle or high school children succeed in school." Riegel hopes her book will not only attract parents, but also school districts. "Schools usually have some type of intervention system in place for students who are struggling. I am hoping they will either recommend my book to parents or provide copies for them," said Riegel.
