The impetus to establish a medical school in Nevada began in 1938 when attention was focused on the shortage of physicians in the United States. Better Medicine recounts the history of the School of Medicine from the dark days of the 1960s when the creation of the school was in doubt to its status today where it is a successful community medical school.
Many people are part of the story and are highlighted in Better Medicine. Dr. Frederick Anderson was the prime mover to establish the medical school, and for his effort he was named the "Father of the University of Nevada School of Medicine." All of the graduates, charter faculty, prominent legislators, and citizens, and important people in the development of the School of Medicine are listed and their contributions named. The six deans who have guided the school since its inception tell their story.
