About the Author:

John D. McCafferty grew up in Carpinteria. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He taught English for twenty years, at San Marcos High School and Santa Barbara City College, and was on the news staff of the Los Angeles Times for ten years.
