Ringing Rocks

Ringing Rocks Park is one of Buck s County s more unusual attractions. A short foot trail from the parking area leads to an imposing sight: an 8-acre field of large boulders piled several deep. Many of these boulders ring like bells when struck with a hammer. You might wonder how anyone ever discovered this, but the ones that ring best are easy to find now because they re marked with worn spots from many hammer blows.

Similar rocks are scattered across much of the landscape in this remote and somewhat isolated part of Bucks County. The area also seems to have disproportionate numbers of barking dogs and what one might be tempted to call mobile homes, except that it s clear they won t be moving anytime soon.

It also has some lovely scenery. Sheep Hole Road is a mile of unpaved road following Tinicum Creek through an isolated valley. Lake Warren is a treasure hidden by trees from cars passing on Kintner Hill and Lake Warren Roads. Geigel Hill Road offers sweeping views of distant hills.

There are hills on the ride, too, but nothing severe. Upper Tinicum Church Road climbs for several miles, but it isn t too steep. Geigel Hill is steep and winding as it heads down toward Sheep Hole. The shorter variation avoids both of these places, though it does include several small hills.
