A companion to Writing: The Bridge Between Us, the Teacher's Manual provides teachers, and especially homeschooling parents, with ample ideas about how to teach the course. The first part of the book addresses typical concerns that teachers may have, as well as problems they may encounter in teaching writing. It also supplements the main book with ideas about how to warm up the class, how to integrate outside reading into the lessons, and how to discuss the material effectively.
The second part of the Teacher's Manual provides chapter-by-chapter assistance. Objectives for each chapter are listed, and possible solutions for the exercises are discussed. Warm-up activities, discussion points, vocabulary, and outside reading particular for that chapter's lessons are included.
While the course can certainly be taught without the Teacher's Manual, having it will ease the process and lessen the workload for the parent or teacher.

Any teacher, whether a parent or a professional, faces a daunting task when attempting to teach writing. The Teacher's Manual for Writing: The Bridge Between Us greatly eases the pain of this by providing sample solutions for the writing exercises, additional warm-ups to get a class going, and concrete suggestions for how to teach the class, whether it consists of one student or thirty. Unlike some supplementary manuals, this one truly helps the teacher.About the Author:
Marcy McDonald has been a freelance writer and editor since 1980. She has written more than 100 articles for newspapers and magazines, as well as weekly columns on such diverse topics as gardening, medicine, and art. She has served as both a writing consultant and writer-in-residence for two county school systems.
While homeschooling her teen-aged son, she realized that the available composition materials were inadequate for middle and high school students. Writing: The Bridge Between Us, along with the Teacher's Manual, were already in draft form, but she revised them to meet the needs of homeschooling families. She is currently at work on a composition text for middle school students.
