Set in the year 2047, this effort mixes a bit of sf with suspense. After a cash-for-artifacts deal goes fatally wrong for their banker client, lawyer Sonja and ex-cop Marina (of the S&M Detective Agency) set out to find what went wrong. Now in possession of both $2 million and three gold balls, the pair, along with their semi-retired physicist partner, begin backtracking through the "mega-financial center" of Pahrump, NV. Vidscreens, magnetic keys, and computer-controlled highways don't intrude too much, but there are some rough edges and overwrought descriptions. Dubious fare for adventurous readers.
