About the Author:

Lalo Fiorelli s father first put a Brownie box camera in his hands when he was five years old. He and his dad went to the park and took black-and-white pictures. When they returned home, they developed and printed the film in his dad s makeshift darkroom. Photography has been a continuous part of Mr. Fiorelli s life since then. After an aviation career spanning 26 years as a fighter pilot in the Marine Corps and later as a Captain for a major airline Mr. Fiorelli turned to his love of photography and diving full time in 1987. Lalo started diving in the early 1970s, becoming an open water scuba instructor for the Professional Association of Diving Instructors in the early 80s. He was cave diver certified in 1986, and later became a cave diving instructor for the National Association of Cave Divers and the National Speleological Society Cave Diving Section. Among Mr. Fiorelli s many publishing credits are images from the wilds of California, and the 1990 calendar, Hidden Splendors of the Yucatan. This calendar contained some of the first published images from these sub aquatic caves. His first book, Wild Splendors of California, published in 2002, was a critical success and winner of a national book award. His Second book, Hidden Splendors of the Yucatan, was sold through the National Museum of Natural History of the Smithsonian. His third book, Secret Splendors of the Desert: Anza-Borrego Desert State ParkŪ was a sell out success. All three of his prior books are catalogued in the permanent archives of the Library of Congress. This is Mr. Fiorelli's fourth book, all of which have been photo essays of the natural world.
