Elisa Carrillo Baldry is a former teacher and mother of three children. After experiencing multiple miscarriages and the loss of her sister from suicide, she turned to journaling as a means of tackling the emotions and finding the means to return to life after grief. She later created a companion journal to offer to others experiencing the grief of loss. "If there is one valuable lesson I learned, it was to be kind and true to myself. Being true to myself meant listening to my heart to fully appreciate the gift of my babies. It was essential to honestly and openly grieve the loss of them. My sister and my babies have left behind a legacy of love as a gift to my family and me. My journal writings are proof of that legacy. I invite anyone struggling with the sorrowful longing of loss to use this journal as a companionway into the process of exploring and healing through writing."Review:
Elisa Baldry offers bereaved parents the gift of the written word -- her own and prompts for their own -- as a way of coping with the emotional pain of pregnancy loss. With compassion and insight of personal experience, 'Embracing a Loss From Sorrow to Acceptance' urges readers to enter the therapeutic realm of journal writing. --Rachel Faldet, co-editor of 'Our Stories of Miscarriage: Healing With Words'
The mission of Bereavement Services is to educate health care professionals who work with the bereaved. One healing tool we often recommend is writing or journaling. For a grieving person who hasn't journaled before, a book with blank pages and a pen could be overwhelming. 'Embracing a Loss From Sorrow to Acceptance: A Journal Companionway' is a double resource. It provides a connection with another person who has experienced losses across the life span, as well as a structured framework to start writing about their own individual experience. It truly is a companionway. --Fran Rybarik, RN, MPH. Director, Bereavement Services.
'Embracing a Loss From Sorrow to Acceptance' is an eloquent, moving account of one person's journey of loss. Not only will you hear Elisa's stories, you will be encouraged to share your experiences, your own stories. Through your own discovery, you too can "embrace loss" and take your journey "from sorrow to acceptance." Elisa's "introspection, growth and healing" is not only inspiring but also a gift to the reader. Move forward with confidence. Someone understands. Someone is listening. I thank Elisa for her courageous gift of personal experience and understanding. --Teri V. Krull, CISW, LLC. Board Certified Diplomate. Registered Play Therapy Supervisor. Director, Center for Positive Regard.
