What matters is whether you, your children, parents, brothers, sisters and friends can wake up each morning knowing that excellent affordable health care is readily available without fear of financial distress or ruin. A native Pennsylvanian, Carl Burak received an A.B. from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 1964, an M.D. from Temple University in Philadelphia in 1968 and a law degree (J.D.) from the University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall) in 1976. He completed his Residency in Psychiatry at the University of California Medical School in San Francisco in1978. As a young physician he worked with the US Public Health Service on the Navajo Reservation in Northern Arizona, and many subsequent years as an Emergency Physician in Pennsylvania and California. He is a past Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice, A Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a Fellow of the American College of Legal Medicine, a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and a past member of the clinical faculties of the University of California in San Francisco and the University of Florida in Gainesville. He and his wife Ronnie live in Atlantic Beach, Florida. He continues to practice Psychiatry, write, advocate for patients and run/hobble on the beach. Dr. Burak is the author of three previous books: The Cradle Will Fall (1994); When I Became A Psychiatrist People Stopped Waving on Main Street (2006); Assholistic Healthcare (2010).
