About the Author:
Bill Dixon, as a thirteen-year-old, first picked up a guitar in 1958 and learned Hard Travelling from a traveling folksinger named Danny O'Day. That was in Columbus Ohio in a long-gone coffee shop called the Avant Garde. That first guitar was a beat-up Harmony archtop, and Bill wanted a better instrument. That's where it all began. Since then, Bill has worked his way through two degrees at The Ohio State University, taking wierdly diverse jobs along the way: bartender, bouncer, cook, speech writer, political campaign manager, zookeeper, radio announcer, iron worker, pet shop manager, artist, book editor, school teacher, and yes, folksinger. After earning his Masters' degree at OSU, he did a brief stint in advertising, then went into banking where he later became CEO of a savings and loan association. He then started and ran his own successful real estate development company. Bill is semi-retired today and works as an artist and writer in Maine and Florida. He's written more than a dozen magazine articles and published two books. He recently released a CD of original folk songs titled: Is It Art? He is an avid guitar collector and consults in various music related matters. He recently lectured on guitars as an art form, at Colby College in Waterville Maine.
