By the time Sheila Carpenter graduated from Vanderbilt University, she'd already established a reputation as a computer whiz kid. So it was no surprise when she was hired by one of the most prestigious computer-consulting firms in the country and transferred to its headquarters in Washington, DC. But soon Sheila's dream job spirals out of control when she's instructed to write a program designed to cover up illegal activities. Now she's the only one who knows a truth so devasting that it could bring down an entire industry. With three people already dead, she's in a race to gather evidence while her own life hangs in the balance. From the Author:
I've been asked whether the main character, Sheila Carpenter, is autobiographical and where I get ideas for my suspense-thrillers. Sheila is a computer programmer; I used my knowledge as a computer programmer and consultant as background material. But Sheila has real guts, a daring attitude, and very high moral standards. Things are pretty much black-and-white with her. She's also very athletic. I do wish I were more like her.
I grab ideas for my suspense-thrillers right out of today's headlines. So if you're Internet savvy, you can search for news articles that cover the same subject matter as my novels. The characters and the specific plots, adventures, and scenarios are all a product of my imagination--which is pretty much bottomless!
In Kickback, the action takes place in Washington, DC and the surrounding area. I was born in DC and lived most of my life in the DC area, so I drew on my knowledge of specific areas as background for the scenes.
So many people have asked me about Sheila that I will be writing a sequel to this story in the future.
