Margaret Rabb was awarded the 2006 Rumi Prize from Arts & Letters journal. Her first book of poems, Granite Dives (New Issues Press 2000), received North Carolina's highest commendation for poetry, the Roanoke Chowan Award. She has taught creative writing at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, the University of Washington in Seattle, and as the 2007-08 artist in residence at the University of Central Oklahoma. During the early eighteenth century a branch of her family, small farmers and artisans, settled the piedmont Carolinas.Review:
Old Home mingles wry humor, dark wit, and deep sorrow in almost equal measures to produce a poetry that is strong and taut as a bowstring drawn to the archer's ear. Its formal qualities are excellent; rhyme, meter, and figurative language placed just so, with no hint of pedantry or exhibitionism....Spare but shining: This is good stuff! --Fred Chappell
