Penticton Ironmap and Spectator Guide is a full-colour double-sided topographic map and guide that is an invaluable aid to spectators and competitors alike. At a scale of 1:75000 the map is 24"x36" and suitable for wall display. The map depicts the Ironman Canada race course covering the entire south Okanagan and Similkameen valleys. The illustrated spectator guide on the reverse describes the race course with elevation profiles, photos and commentaries.

Andrew Makepeace is a cartographer and five-time Ironman Canada finisher who lives in Penticton, BC. Carolyn Wick is an Ironman Canada finisher and triathlon coach from Vancouver, BC. When not competing, both are enthusiastic triathlon spectators.
Penticton Ironmap is very detailed and shows the entire course including a magnified version of the downtown. The swim, bike and run routes all use different colours to show their courses and are easy to follow. The elevation profile is both interesting and daunting. For anyone training for the Ironman it will be a useful tool to find some similar (gulp) hills. There are also information bubbles that point out mileage and provide location information at various points on the map. What is really great about the map is that it can be used not only by triathletes but also spectators. It provides as much information for observers to refer to as it does for the athletes. Overall both Nicole and I felt that this is a tool we could use as spectators this year and to prepare to race the following year. It is a wealth of information in a practical, easy to understand format. --1
