Christina McGrinson was born in the Republic of Panama. After completing high school at the National Institute of Panama she migrated to the United States where she obtained a Bachelor's of Arts in Elementary Education from Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa. She also holds a Master's of Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She has taught in her native Panama, Brazil, and Guatemala as well as in the United States. During her career she has earned several awards for her contributions to education such as the Medallion of Excellence from Kalamazoo Public Schools (Michigan), the Multicultural Education Award from the State of Michigan, and the Mary McLeod Bethune Award presented by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. (Kalamazoo, Michigan chapter). She is listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers, and was named Distinguished Alumna by Northwestern College (Orange City, Iowa). She also was awarded the Kalamazoo Woman of Distinction award by Delta Kappa Gamma Society International (Epsilon Chapter). She resides in Kalamazoo, where she retired from teaching in the Kalamazoo Public Schools.
