Diane Carty Speicher can recall the exact moment her life changed. It happened when she was 21 years old and found herself standing directly in front of Pope John Paul II. What transpired during her meeting with the influential religious leader that day prompted her to begin a journey that continues today, more than 25 years later. Pope John Paul II's call to make a difference in her life resonated with Diane and she began working with children in hospitals, Special Olympics, and other volunteer efforts. Diane has spent the past 10 years working closely with children of all ages to discover their light within, and then share that with others. She spent six years as a Sunday school teacher, teaching hundreds of kids every year about God and his love for them through reading, arts and crafts, acting and singing. “This Little Light of Mine, I’m Gonna let it Shine” was the theme song every week. She also continues to teach spiritual classes to the first through eighth graders at her children’s elementary school, and organizes retreats for the older kids. She is an active member of the school’s Spirituality committee, which also organizes woman’s retreats, couple’s retreats, guest speakers, children’s programs, and produces a quarterly Spiritual Awakenings newsletter that is distributed to all the students! and parents. For the past six years, she has been the community outreach coordinator for her two children’s classes, involving the students in a variety of community care-giving events. Habitat for Humanity, the Children’s Shelter, the Homeless Shelter, various food kitchens, senior citizen facilities, and elderly friends in the neighborhood have been the recipients of the children’s goodwill. She now delivers her messages that children have unique and radiant gifts that they are meant to share with the world to parents, teachers, children and professionals through speaking engagements at church events, Kiwanis organizations, community events, and book festivals.Review:
