self/cell revels in the hidden philosophical, aesthetic, and emotional space concealed in what’s traditionally marginalized as “science.” This collaboration between poet and artist explores the language of the body and the imagination beneath the glaring light of technology. Text and image work together, moving between interior dialogue and scientific discourse with a deft use of poetics. self/cell echoes Lewis Thomas’s classic collection of essays, Lives of a Cell, and calls for a new ecology in which we no longer think of selves and cells as separate and distinct. Mournful, humorous, cheeky and serious, self/cell gives us nothing less than a fresh introduction to our everyday world.
