While writing Ista Cante I knew it was going to be a child's picture book about being introduced to the knowledge of intuition. What was a surprise to me was that this book has taken on a life of it's own depending upon who is reading it. The reader's life experiences have come into play.
If a young child is reading, or being read the book, the understanding would be of a child and her doll simply talking and playing together.
An older child, with her life experiences, would begin to realize that within the imagined conversation she would be listening to her own voice. This would be the beginning of the knowledge of her intuition.
An adult would see further than that and know there is an unspoken generational influence
that guides us all. We listen to not only our own inner voice but to the past generation's voices as well.
The readers taught me these lessons and one other lesson about adopted children and their unrealized link with their birth families. The communication between the hearts of past bloodlines is still there, whether they have met or not.
In the beginning, I thought I was writing a book just about intuition for young ones but the book has now grown into an adult, teaching me the wisdom of its ways. We are all connected. Hope you enjoy it, Carolyn
Using her imagination and playing with Ista Cante, a young girl explores and grows into a young woman who has learned to listen to her heart and to trust her intuition.
Within this picture book, a hand sewn doll created by her mother's loving hands, is Ista Cante, meaning the 'eye of the heart'. The girl and the doll are close companions throughout the journey of childhood. Poetic words and vibrant illustrations weave in and out of this folk-like tale.
