Only fifty years ago the residential neighborhoods of America were alive with the happy sounds of children playing. Today these same neighborhoods are silent and dead, as if the Pied Piper had come and taken all the children away. Childhood today is a cruel travesty of what it used to be, a joyless affair of daycare centers, excessive homework, competition soccer and no time or place for kids to just have fun and play. In his book, ROBBED OF THEIR CHILDHOOD, Richard M. Brodie reveals how we have robbed children of this most magical time of their lives. Read how otherwise well-intentioned social programs and so-called progressive social changes have had terrible unintended negative consequences for children, how modern psychology has been a disease rather than a cure, and how it is above all the spirit of play, and not endless mechanical school work, that leads to success in school and to success and happiness in life.
