In Considering Psychotherapy & God, psychotherapy and religion come together in an attempt to treat a variety of emotional issues. The author is a certified psychiatrist and neurologist with an MD and a PhD in psychoanalysis. Dr. Johnson observes the role that religion plays in finding one's true identity, determining one's politics, and achieving genuine maturity in life. He examines the behavioral aspects of religion to answer the question, "what can the science of psychoanalysis and the practice of religion offer each other?" In so doing, he not only manages to reconcile the opposites of science and religion, but also offers new insights into how people can use these tools to better themselves.

Here is a book that bridges the medical world to religion. Paul Tournier once wrote that the clergyman and the psychiatrist walk down the same street on opposite sides. They tip their hats and go their separate ways. Dr. Richard Johnson s work has led him to step across the street and greet the pastor, poet and priest. He helps him or her to make the bridge to health, the inner self, and ultimately to God. Johnson s work is extraordinary; the depth, the insight, and the deep concern for ht person and our society are felt in every page. It is a pleasure to endorse his book, to know him personally and to have worked together.Chet B. Gean, D. Min.Pastor, Steel Lake Presbyterian Church, Federal Way WashingtonAbout the Author:
