The Soldier Series workbook uses a collection of beautiful and powerful spiritual images for healing from moral trauma. This book emerged from the author's work with Vietnam veterans and her own continuing spiritual journey. It identifies the stages of healing and asks useful, guiding questions. Wilhelm, a professional artist and spiritual director, is grounded in an appreciation of the full range of emotional experience, which encompasses both the dark shadow and the light. Her compassion invites returning veterans, their families, and all those who are seeking self-understanding and inner freedom to an inward pilgrimage. The workbook includes 30 full color original works of art.

Carolyn Wilhelm is a highly trained spiritual director and a professional artist. For over sixteen years as a spiritual director she has accompanied people as they explore the shape and meaning in both the shadows and the bright places of their lives. She founded and taught in a successful spiritual direction training program. With a background in the Quaker and Catholic faiths while being married to a Rabbi, Carolyn's studies in pastoral care and the world’s religions for her Masters of Divinity expanded her already deep appreciation of different forms of spirituality. Over twenty-five years ago she began the Soldier Series paintings and worked closely with veterans, bringing forward through her paintings the issues they face in returning to civilian life from the intensity of war. Her beautiful paintings speak beyond words to the heart of what it is to be fully human.
