Dorantes was born in Cordoba, Veracruz in 1973, and has lived in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua for the past twenty years. She has published four book-length works of poetry in Mexico, and is a founding member of the border arts collective Compaa Frugal (The Frugal Company), which counts among its activities publication of the monthly poetry broadside series Hoja Frugal, printed in editions of4,000 and distributed free throughout Mexico.

sexoPUROsexoVELOZ and Septiembre are books two and three of Mexican poet Dolores Dorantes lifelong project titled Dolores Dorantes. These works consist of fragmented interlocking sequences of poems that create a scaffolding to frame Dorantes vivid explorations of the intensely personal and intensely social questions that inhabit the space called Dolores Dorantes. Dorantes writes, May be / I had to forget how... ; it is from within the particular experience she offers of forgetting how that we might, perhaps, begin to remember why.

About the Author:

Dolores Dorantes was born in C¢rdoba, Veracruz in 1973, and has lived in Ciudad Ju rez, Chihuahua, for the past 20 years. Her published books include sexoPUROsexoVELOZ (2004), Lola (cartas cortas) (2002), Para Bernardo: un eco (2000) and Poemas para ni¤os (1999). She is founding director of the border arts collective Compa¤¡a Frugal, which supports autonomous projects in the arts and counts among its activities publication of the bi-weekly poetry broadside series Hoja Frugal, printed in editions of 4000 and distributed free throughout Mexico. She is an auto-didactic journalist and poet who was thoroughly disillusioned with her studies of Hispanomexican Literature at the Autonomous University of Ciudad Ju rez. Her op-ed pieces, criticism and investigative texts have been published in Mexican newspapers such as Pol¡tica (Xalapa, Veracruz), La Cr¢nica (Mexico City), La Jornada (Mexico City), S¡ntesis (Tlaxcala) and Diario de Ju rez, where she worked as an editor. Dolores stopped working in the news media thanks to the total lack of freedom of expression and increasing manipulation of information, but she maintains a blog where her opinions about art, politics and society continue to be made public on a regular basis.
