Thirst, a novel by trial attorney and award-winning poet, Dania Deschamps, illustrates the false assumption that we can create a safe and content personal world by remaining in a cocoon woven of childhood teachings, our faith communities and of doing unto others as we would have them do unto us. For those adults whose lives are generally sheltered from the ugly facets of humanity, Thirst sounds an alert. It draws us into the facade of normalcy behind which may lurk not just an insane mind but an evil one. It is imperative to recognize these people of the mask. If we do not, we risk our lives and our souls. This book of fiction gives expression to the truth that only by listening to the Spirit within do we discern the reality of evil and the dreadful bargain it proposes, a bargain that is simultaneously frightful and alluring.

I am neither psychologist nor psychiatrist. I am a lawyer, a writer and an amateur student of personalities deviating from what professionals consider the norm. I, like others, however, perceive the atrocities that human beings inflict upon each other and ask why. Many times there is a reason--money; jealousy; vengeance, political or religious conviction–the list goes on. Because of underlying motives, some acts may be considered evil, others not. The inexplicable and intentional cruelty of humankind is what catches and holds my attention because it is destructive, demoralizing and works its sinister magic against personal and global peace. It desperately needs changing, something that cannot happen without understanding. I am anxious to determine whether there is a gold standard which measures evil as evil--no matter one’s cultural background. My personal definition answers that question affirmatively because it deals not with the end result but with the motivation spurring the act. An act cannot be anything but evil if the perpetrator is in touch with reality and intentionally, without compassion or remorse, inflicts pain and suffering on another creature for no reason other than self-gratification.By doing so, you agree that we have your permission, without payment to you, to use your thoughts in any upcoming books.
