For three days in the summer of 1969, 500,000 people spontaneously gathered, bringing together peace, love and the greatest rock 'n' roll performers in history. Stunning sounds and aromatic smells wafted through the air, making this legendary event one that has never been duplicated. Barry Z Levine, a member of the Academy Award-winning "Woodstock" documentary film team, captured this entire event. Levine arrived days before the crowds when Woodstock was still a grassy pasture and continued to photograph long after the last person had departed the debris-strewn muddy field. Over the course of that tumultuous week, Levine took so many pictures, he had blisters on his index finger and thumb from clicking the shutter and advancing the film. Levine stopped only once, for a 45 minute nap on top of a piano cover that was on stage while Blood, Sweat & Tears performed. Along with the nearly 300 full-color photographs, the text by Linanne G. Sacket presents a chronological account of this historical event, capturing the performers, the personalities, the audience, the excitement, the mood, and the actions. "The Woodstock Story Book" is a must for anyone who was at Woodstock, wishes they had gone, or just wants a bird's eye view at the greatest historical event of the 1960s.

About the Author:

As part of the Academy Award-winning Woodstock documentary team, still photographer Barry Z Levine was there, and captured it all. Among other honors, Levine was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Italy's Biograf Film Festival where his photographs were featured on buses, street displays and giant illuminated outdoor billboards in Bologna, Milan, and Rome as well as in exhibitions at over one hundred La Feltrinelli bookstores. His photos are on covers of magazines, in books and in art galleries worldwide and the book provides a free coupon to redeem a full color 24x36" Woodstock Levine Poster. Mr Levine resides in Florida with his wife Linanne, and presents his work worldwide.

Review:

To quote Kirkus Discoveries..The Woodstock Story Book is an incredible, all-access pass to Woodstock...the authors have created an intimate time capsule with this book...the vivid picture drawn though word and image is mesmerizing...the peace and love essence of Woodstock rings out loud and clear. --Kirkus Discoveries

You'll want a dozen copies! I couldn't put this book down! Dance/music camps for grown-ups make me kick up my heels, and now, here's a picture story book for grown-ups from the Woodstock Festival of 1969, just in time for its 40th anniversary. Everything is here--from the set up with stage crews and Richie Havens's welcoming set to the muddy-skinnydipping-potsmoking-make-love-not-war community to Hendrix and the Star Spangled Banner to the epilogue about the greatest peaceful event in world history. You're going to love this book, and it makes an awesome gift item. Put on Sly and the Family Stone's Gonna Take You Higher & and treat yourself to what I'm going to predict is hailed as the best rock-'n-roll stroll down hippie lane of the century! --Evelyn Schneider, Gardiner, N. Y.

Stunning photos and a great narrative makes this book a must have for anyone who was at Woodstock, wish they had been, or for anyone wanting a great history lesson and a piece of the 60's. Rare photos of the musicians, the people, and the landscape from the perspective and lens of a festival insider is a great way to celebrate the 40th anniversary and the spirit of Woodstock --Eric Mirell, West Hampton, N. Y.
