Choosing Joy at Work guides readers through the three steps the author followed in reclaiming his joy and personal power. Through a deeper understanding of seeing, influencing, and creating joy at work, readers in any box on the organizational chart can take their next step towards freedom and joy by exercising their personal power on Monday.
Choosing Joy at Work demonstrates how joy changes the work contract and improves work; guides readers to reconnect with their joy in past work, making it easier to see joy in work today; suggests experiments to influence, sustain, and grow joy for yourself and those around you; provides principles, signals blocks, and suggests quick recovery techniques to help keep you on track; and challenges you to give yourself permission and restore your power to choose and own your joy.
Roger’s personal mission is to improve the way people work together. A life-long passion for empowering people, and more than twenty years of experience improving business results as an internal and external consultant, coach, and change agent led the author to develop and test practical steps and tools that help workers choose joy. Now he brings this passion to drawing readers toward a new vision and practice at work, and helps them give themselves permission to let their light shine. In Choosing Joy at Work, he shares his life-long pursuit of joy in work.
It is Roger’s hope that the book will improve the quality of relationships between people, creating thriving business cultures, and leading people to learn freedom and cooperation at work. As Spirit inspired his writing, he realized Choosing Joy at Work provides a powerful lever for positive change for individuals and organizations. The book is the foundation for Roger’s life work.
I’ll never forget Dad’s response: "You’ll be doing dishes for the rest of your life. You might as well learn to enjoy it."
I accepted that challenge and did learn to find joy at the sink. Forty years later, you’ll still find me volunteering to do dishes, even at Thanksgiving!
Years later, I learned that any self-respecting consultant writes a book. When my own efforts always landed me stuck, I found myself in a writing class doing an intense exercise involving getting my left/logical brain out of the way so I could allow Spirit to reveal the book for which I was to be the conduit.
That book is "Choosing Joy at Work." The idea seemed too soft for me at the time, since I wanted to write a "serious" business book. After living with the idea intimately over the past months, I’ve come to realize Choosing Joy at Work is simply the most powerful lever for change I’ve ever encountered. Period.
The book begins with choosing joy in doing dishes, and takes off from there!
