About the Author:
Soecy Gummels (simply pronounce Soecy as "Susie") was born in Paramaribo, Suriname, as the third of twelve children. Her parents were fortunate enough to provide the family with the advantages and adventure of growing up in two worlds. Soecy spent her youth and the majority of her adult life between her two great loves, Suriname and the USA.

At the age of 20, she semi-settled in Suriname, where she was employed as a teacher of English, and weathered the trials and triumphs of marriage and raising three children. She is fluent in Dutch and English as well as her homeland dialect called Sranang Tongo.

She is extremely fond of the sound, sight, and every nuance in the feel and taste of "words." Writing has always been her favorite hobby. She has written children’s stories, poetry, and prose in both Dutch and English. She is now dedicated to writing full time, but keeps herself balanced through her intensive gardening pleasures, mainly orchids, and the indulgence of an extensive aviary.

Traveling is her favorite "sport," through which she delights in experiencing the wonders of other cultures and communicating with people. Most of all, she revels in the joy of the one constant in her life: her family. Feel free to contact her at: soecy@sr.net.

Editor’s Note: Soecy also writes poetry under the pseudonym Tessa Larraine, and you will find some of her wonderful lyrics and poems throughout the story.
