Elaine M. Solowey was born in 1953. She studied commercial horticulture, desert agriculture, land reclamation and tree surgery. She married Michael Solowey in 1975 and together the couple has six sons.A member of Kibbutz Ketura since 1975 she has planted and managed orchards, introduced new crops taught at the Arava Institute and founded the Center for Sustainable Agriculture at the Arava Institute.Currently Dr. Solowey is working on germplasm exchanges for MERC/AID and the cultivation and domestication of rare medicinal plants for the Natural Medicines Unit of Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem.
