Lorene Burkhart may be one of two or three in Indiana who are candidates for "Mrs. Indiana Business." This book, inspirational to women as well as men, tells how a farm girl rose to be a nationally recognized home economist, a newsmagazine editor, and an officer in national corporations like Borden's. Lorene's later life included major philanthropy; she is the largest female contributor to Pudue Univesity. Beautiful details, two-color through-out, peach-colored designer jacket, and color photo inserts make this a great gifting book.|Her interesting and instructional story is told in a new autobiography An Accidental Pioneer: A Farm Girl’s Drive to the Finish (Hawthorne Publishing).“On the surface, growing up on that farm between the two rivers was serene and simple. As is often the case, however, things may not be as they appear, and just as a river has unseen currents running beneath its surface, below my family’s surface were some rather complicated dynamics. Only through the perspectives of adulthood and my own experiences have I begun to perceive and understand those dynamics, and how they impacted everything I have done. I learned that with solid values, creativity and hard work—one can break beyond any limits. I learned that life is whatever you choose to make of it.”About the Author:
Her father mentored her on ways to succeed in life. She valued those lessons into adulthood, when her talents, skills, and work ethic led her into such varied areas as marketing, TV and radio (she became a nationally recognized home economics expert with her own television show). She then become one of the first female executives of a major corporation in the country, and finally creatively invented successful companies of her own. Burkhart is now one of the Midwest’s most significant civic leaders.
