Born in Vienna, Austria, Christina Botto and her younger sister were raised in a very conservative environment. At age 25, Christina moved with her mother and sister to the United States. She got married and had two daughters. Her husband passed away in 1987, leaving Christina with two girls, ages one and eight, to raise on her own. Following a difficult period of adjustment, Christina became involved in church and community activities, which led to her involvement and dedication to helping parents and teenagers resolve complicated issues. She has studied teenagers for more than 14 years, observing and developing parenting strategies. She methodically refined these strategies and applied them as her younger daughter went through her teenage years. As parents of other teens became aware of Christina s tactics and learned of the success she had, they asked her to help in their struggles with many of the same issues she experienced. Her desire to help other parents challenged with similar issues she had faced inspired her to write her book, Help Me With My Teenager! Christina continues to be involved helping parents and their teens. Christina is a member of The National Writers Association and the National Parent Teacher Association and also is included in the Empire Who s Who Registry Of Executives and Professionals.Review:
If you are the parent of a teenager you may have had some challenging moments...you also may have run screaming to a friend begging for advice. Some teens are the type you need an instruction manual for, while others are perfectly understandable. Christina Botto offers a guide for parents of teens, that she says works. Help Me With My Teenager! is a step-by-step guide, that instruction manual parents sometimes wish for. Botto shares her own experiences, being the mom of two young women who made it through teenhood. Once she has you at ease that she has been there and done that, she explains that the best approach to having a better relationship with your young adult is to understand what it means to be a teen. You probably remember but it doesn t hurt to be reminded. Botto then goes on to give advice on connecting with your teen, giving them room to grow, dealing with their friends, setting limits, and enjoying your relationship with your teenager. You can do it! This guide is a no nonsense how-to that is likely to save many relationships. Being reminded to be careful of what we say, how to act, and react, is worth its weight in gold. Some of the tips are so slap-upside-the-head simple that you ll feel a Homer Simpson moment of Doh! Others are full of insight that you just may have never thought of. If you need a little guidance, a friendly whisper in the ear about what works and what doesn t, Christina Botto is here for you. --Heather Froeschl, bookreviews.com
For too many parents of teenagers, conflict is an everyday occurrence. For author Christina Botto, this became unacceptable. She set out to understand the mind of a teenager. Her findings and results from 14 years of working with teens and their parents are outlined in Help Me With My Teenager!, an absolute must-read for parents of teens and pre-teens. As a parent of a teenager and a pre-teen, I found Help Me With My Teenager to be right on target. I like that Botto s focus is twofold: the wellbeing of your teenager, and the wellbeing of your parent-teen relationship. If you want to continue to foster a close relationship with your growing child built on trust and respect, help your teen successfully navigate through these confusing and exciting years, and genuinely be there for your teen, this guide is for you. Easy to read, it dives right into solutions without making you jump through impossible hoops to get results. Even though parents of teenagers will comprise most of the book s readership, there s plenty in this guide to benefit others as well. If you re a middle school or high school teacher, a school counselor, even a parent of young children, read Help Me With My Teenager. It will give you excellent insights to help you with the teens you re working with, or it will teach you valuable skills you ll need in a few short years. --Graciela Sholander, bookreviews.org
