Monstrous gods exist. Their names are familiar to a few who read the unwanted histories: Cthulhu, Ithaqua, Shub-Niggurath, Azathoth. They are worshiped by tiny populations of altered humans gathered in lineages called Families. They prey on the Cattle: most of the rest of humankind. But one of these terrible Families, the Tamelins, has given birth to two sisters who are unique in showing signs of compassion for humanity, even love."Colder" follows Talitha Tamelin, the younger of these two siblings. A shy and acerbic woman in her thirties living alone in an expensive Seattle apartment, she nurtures a bewildered disgust for the rest of her fellow humans. Previously happy and loving like her sister, she now wonders how she could be a part of humanity.Events set into motion by an Outer God called Nyarlathotep will show her she is not.Three thousand miles away, FBI Special Agent Shaman Esker and his team are investigating mass kidnapping sites where some of the country's greatest minds are disappearing. Agent Esker is led to Dr. Nurea Astound who has, bottled up in a sealed chamber, something called a True Human."Colder" offers grim but not hopeless answers to the questions of Who are we and Why are we the way we are. The novel begins the Tamelin Light trilogy. The second book, called "The Tamelin Light", will be available winter 2018.

The room has grown noticeably colder.
"We're scientists, you and I," Talitha says to Julian, drawing a step closer. "Proposition, observation, interpretation, explanation, and all of the other '-tions'," she pronounces it shuns, "that I have had to deal with all my life. But admittedly none of them explain this; none of them convince."
She takes another step and he wills himself to stop leaning away like she was brandishing a glowing iron. Why am I retreating? But he is on his feet and, without knowing why, keeping distance between them. Away from that pretty, ivory hand with its long, pale fingers, though chewed cuticles and ragged nails mar their elegance.
"Science has yet to offer an explanation though, true, I haven't exactly submitted my body for examination to whatever men in black work for the Pentagon and NSA. It showed up when I was about twelve. I thought it was concentrated in my hands and perhaps it is, a little. I call it the Gift, because I am so clever with my cynical sense of humor. As I get near you, as I watch you, your every organic process opens to me. I get a sense of you: your emotions, your disposition. And if I touch you," she pokes her finger in his direction, stopping short of his face.
He steels himself; a bead of cold sweat drips down his forehead. For her side he sees her gritting her teeth, and her words sound like they are being forced out.
What the hell is the matter with her? he thinks. Or me?
"If I touch you, I will take something of your life. I don't know what, yet. I haven't collected enough data. And it only works . . . when I am . . . concentrating. So, shall I?" He jerks his head fractionally, as emphatic a 'no' as he can muster.
Great Old Ones, quantum physics and gene manipulation. A terrible cult that leaves only madness and impossible technology behind. This is the story of the Tamelin sisters, one struggling to understand her alien heritage and the other striving to control it. It is the story of FBI agent Shaman Esker tasked with ending the cult's rampage, discovering instead secrets Man Was Not Meant To Know including the shape-shifting True Human named Celine.
Colder is the first book of the Tamelin Light series. Look for Book Two Winter 2016.
