About the Author:

Monica Gallagher is a graphic designer during the daylight hours and a comicker at night. While an animation major in college, Monica first tiptoed onto the comics scene with her webcomic Gods & Undergrads, following the awkward adventures of a girl transitioning into college life while simultaneously discovering her connection to Greek gods. Once her eyes had been opened to the online comics scene, Monica couldn't help herself and continued to produce more work. A short stint in amateur modeling led Monica to create both an autobiographical story dealing with her struggles with self-esteem (titled Boobage) and a fictional series dealing with a professional model who works part-time as an assassin (titled Lipstick & Malice). In 2010, she chronicled her experiences modeling in her autobio When I Was A Mall Model. Luckily, Monica emerged from modeling with both her boobs and her criminal record intact. She then discovered something else to become obsessed with and inspired by -- Roller Derby. Bonnie N. Collide, Nine to Five is the result of her inspiration -- a weekly webcomic that combines the superhero side of being a rollergirl with the Clark Kent side of working a day job. Monica just completed her first season as a member of the Junkyard Dolls, one of the four teams of lovely ladies of the Charm City Roller Girls. Recently, Monica contributed to Oni Press's Roller Derby Anthology JAM! Tales from the World of Roller Derby which was released on June 23, 2010. She is currently working on illustrating a full-length graphic novel for Oni. Monica continues to create short stories, contribute to anthologies, and tackle illustration work from her home in Baltimore. Check out her art and news pages for the latest dirt - you never know where she'll pop up next!

Review:

Brilliant Monica Gallagher tells an autobiographical tale about growing up with teeny, tiny boobs. It s a remarkable story of finding self-esteem, confidence, and courage when you feel like the odd person out. --David Gallaher, The Only Living Boy

Boobage, is a mini-comic by Monica Gallager that covers, or unveils, a very personal preoccupation with a lot of wit and humor. So, what do you instantly think of when you put such greats together as Kate Hudson, Clare Danes, Gwen Stefani, and Bridget Fonda? The one thing that Gallager used to have trouble with was their (and her own) relatively small breasts, or tits. It s okay, she says tits a lot. Gallagher isn t afraid to tackle the tit issue, large or small. This won t really be of interest to those who objectify and sexualize but it may give them some pause. Hey Jimmy, or whoever, those hooters you salivate over belong to a real human being. What Gallagher does is keep the focus on the subject at a personal level. In her case, she grew up thinking her boobs were too small and therefore, inferior in some way. She does a great job of brining us into her early years which revolved around ballet practice and confiding over and comparing tits among her friends. Somebody must be hiding something they all should know. Oh, yes, birth control pills. While not without its side effects, it did help some girls fill out and it did make periods far more tolerable for other girls. Gallagher s drawing style is direct and engaging. She has a nice command of anatomy, body language, and facial expressions. She has a very inviting quality to her work and her writing. There isn t a false note to be found. This mini-comic should prove an excellent calling card. I look forward to seeing more of Monica Gallagher s work. --ComicsGrinder.com
