The first translation into English of the personal poems of the 6th century Latin poet, Venantius Fortunatus. Venantius is the author of two hymns that have come to be part of the liturgy of the Roman Catholic church: "Sing, O Tongue, of the Glorious Struggle," and "The Banners of the King are Lifted." His sainthood is commemorated on December 14. The poems in this book are not his religious or political poetry, but his intimate writings about his closest friends, and his own emotions.
