Hi I'm Hanna. In addition to writing I love to snowboard, surf, travel, ride motorcycles, and cook. The Earl series draws on a lot of my own personal experiences, not only from traveling to surf and snowboard but also on years of teaching and working with kids. It all came together in these fun books about a little blue monkey who wants to see the world. One of the most fun things about the books is that they are the stories of my adventures translated for a young audience. Many of the illustrations in the books are based on pictures I've taken while traveling. People, especially kids, ask me all the time "are you Earl or John?" A little of both. A lot of times I'm the confident traveler who's been there and done that. Other times I'm feeling out of my element and just trying to take it all in. The message I want most to share with the kids who read my books is that traveling and other cultures are something to be enjoyed, not a afraid of. Learning new languages, trying different foods and meeting people who come from very different backgrounds is a lot of fun. I think that this is a really important lesson to share with kids at a time when "different" is often presented in the media as scary. I hope you enjoy my writing and share some adventures of your own. One last note. I felt it important that production of the books live up to my own values. These books are printed in Vermont, USA on FSC certified paper using VOC free inks and 100% certified renewable energy.
