Queen Rian Andahar betrayed her people when she fell in love with Tasa; Demon Emperor of the North. And yet, at the end she found the courage to sacrifice herself, and imprisoned him behind walls of energy for a thousand years. Her Children will be caught up in a story that spans worlds and Millennia. Tarnbox is the first instalment. Celeste Andahar carries the legacy of Rian. With her brother Darnel she will be sought out by the servants of the demon as it strives to complete its purpose. Divanna Rion, Celeste's cousin, is the spoiled daughter of Argentis Rion. Once the most renowned of Kings, his strength is undermined by the witch Queen of the Centrelands; Sarra Sadduk. Divanna is protected by the Captain of her father's Elite Guard; Calen Sandoran. Haunted by the ghosts of his past, he is a drunkard fallen from grace. Calen is about to be caught up in the legacy of Rian. Zanek Dorvan is the Commander of the Emperor's Corsers. He is being sent on a mission to retrieve an antique chest known as the 'Tarnbox'. The mission will change him in many ways, causing him to question his allegiance. And in the cold North, Tasa sits on his Obsidian throne ... his time is coming ... soon.

The writing of 'Tarnbox' covers a significant period of my life. I began the work somewhere in the late 1980's, and the majority was written during my lunch breaks while working for a major Telecoms company in the UK. I reached a point, with almost 60% of the novel written, when being a father to my 3 boys and holding down a full time job inevitably slid the work onto the shelf, where it stayed for roughly 15 years. In 2003 I emigrated from the UK to the wonderful province of British Columbia in Canada. It didn't take long for the province to work it's magic, and the last third of the novel sped out in 2008.
The stories kept spinning through my head, and in 2009/2010 I completed the second part of what is now a three part series entited 'The Children of Rian'. The second novel entitled 'The Queen of Chaos and Law' was released in 2010.
In 2011, unsatisfied with the earlier work, I began a complete overhaul of the first novel, & what you see today is the result. Enjoy!
The third and final novel in the trilogy will be called 'A Splintered World'. With a little luck I should be able to complete it before the end of 2012.

--Tarnbox by Ian Dowdall
This novel is dedicated to my family and friends.
To my wife Nicola who has somehow managed to survive 15 years of marriage to a temperamental artist.
To my friends Julie and Cam for getting me to hunt out the manuscript that had been sitting half finished on a shelf gathering dust for 10 years.
And finally to the mischief makers James, Sam and Alex, who are by far the greater creation and who make my world the richer for simply being.
