Bob Bulik has been in the publishing field for over 20 years. Over the past 6 years, Mr. Bulik has been a coach of developing players at the youth and high school level. It was during this time that he became interested in how to help players gain a better understanding of the game. Through his experience at practices, games, clinics and lectures, Mr. Bulik developed a series of "Plays" which became this book. Mike Roberts, who made a significant contribution to this book, has been involved in baseball for most of his life. Coach Roberts played baseball and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and then played professionally in the Kansas City Royals' organization. After his playing career, Coach Roberts became the head baseball coach at UNC and held that position for 23 seasons. His teams won 5 ACC Championships and twice participated in the College World Series. In 2004, Coach Roberts became the head coach of the Cotuit Kettleers who play in the Cape Cod Summer Collegiate League and still coaches the Kettleers. Coach Roberts provides baserunning and base stealing clinics to players at all levels. In particular, he works with major league players and teams to help them develop their base stealing philosophy. He is arguablly one of the country's leading experts in this area of baseball. His son Brian, All-Star second baseman for the Baltimore Orioles, led the American League in stolen bases in 2007. Coach Roberts is author of "You Can't steal Second Base and Keep Your Foot on First!"Review:
Bob Bulik is one of those baseball people who fell in love with the game and all its details. Because of his deep interest in the game, he decided to write this book to help each of us, and in particular youth players, learn more about the game and how to play it. The plays Bob has included in this book give everyone who is interested in baseball the opportunity to learn the nuances of the game. The plays will educate and teach players, coaches, fans and parents. Studying these plays will help players gain the knowledge they need and to be aware of the practice they must put in on and off the field to become an improved player. By reading these plays, coaches will realize once again how much there is to teach and how beneficial it is to set aside lots of practice time; to help players polish their game and for their team to become better as a unit. Parents and fans will learn how difficult this game is to master because of the knowledge a ballplayer must have and then process in a split second to make the right play. The more we understand about baseball, the more amazing and engaging we will find the game to be, and this book is a terrific step to take in order to gain that understanding. --Mike Roberts
