About the Author:

Diana Alishouse uses her art and her book, Depression Visible: The Ragged Edge, to educate people about depression and bipolar illnesses. "They can be treated," she says "...but the symptoms must be recognized as symptoms not a lack of will-power or a character defect." Alishouse is a member of Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).

Review:

This book should be required reading for all physicians, medical students, other health professionals, teachers, parents, and particularly at this point, legislators. --John Edwards, M.D.

Depression Visible: The Ragged Edge is an informative book detailing a personal life experience--understanding and dealing with a life altering mood disorder. Diana's expression not only uses words, but she portrays her journey with her dynamic fabric art. Just looking at her artwork one can feel the emotions that Diana went through as she was creating her work. The riveting poems that accompany them further illuminate her thought process and lead the viewer into a deeper understanding about the art and how it relates to her mood. Depression Visible is a multi-sensory approach to understanding depression and its effect on a woman's life. I highly recommend it. --Carol Ann Waugh, Fiber Artist

Reading this feels like the author is talking to me about me. --Anon
