9780982137024: Corporatocracy Rules: A Diana Hunter Thriller

When PI Diana Hunter accepts a case from corporate titan, Maude McCollvoy, she goes undercover as a homeless woman to check up on Maude's crusading son, Robby McCollvoy. The case leads Diana from the dark streets of Los Angeles to the corporate towers of the super rich where she discovers an international financial conspiracy involving hidden money, hidden profits, mortgage fraud and tax fraud. She is confronted by a cabal of such power that the perptrators are immune to civil and criminal justice. In their rarefied world things are done, not by law, but by Corporatocracy Rules. With both justice and her life on the line, Diana abandons legal procedures and resort to desperate measures for extracting justice in and extraordinary fashion.

From the Author:

During the 1980s I worked with a team that traveled the county providing security to FSLIC, (Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation) as they shut down failed Savings and Loans on Friday afternoons and opened them up again under new owners on Monday mornings. I found the need for security ironic because the S&Ls had already been robbed, often by their owners. The abuse, incompetence and fraud created by the deregulation of the S&Ls led to losses of over 600 billion dollars, much of that paid for by American tax payers. When I saw the whole thing happening all over again with even greater financial devastation in unregulated bundled mortgage securities, I felt angry but helpless. So, I put my fictional character Private Investigator, Diana Hunter on the case to see what she could do about it. The resulting case file is Corporatocracy Rules.

About the Author:

Joan Francis is a licensed private investigator and owner of Francis Pacific Investigations. She has also worked as a newspaper reporter and is author of previous Diana Hunter thrillers, Old Poison and Silent Coup. She spent her childhood in small mining towns and camps in the western United States and in South America with her family and mining engineer father. Moving from place to place, she attended fifteen schools before graduating with a B.A. in history from the University of Washington in Seattle. Married with three grown children, she and her husband now live in a secluded valley of the Tehachapi Mountains in California.

When PI Diana Hunter accepts a case from corporate titan, Maude McCollvoy, she goes undercover as a homeless woman to check up on Maude s crusading son, Robby McCollvoy. The case leads Diana from the dark streets of Los Angeles to the corporate towers of the super rich and makes her doubt that anything is what it appears to be. Is the homeless shelter where Robby works really offering hope to the homeless, or is it a con that preys on everyone? Is the handsome Nelson Langly, who is also investigating the shelter, a true colleague or a dangerous adversary? Is shelter owner, Dorica June Grizel a small time con or a minor player in a much larger conspiracy. When Robby is murdered, Diana must also question Maude s motives. Did she hire Diana to protect Robby or spy on him? When Diana and Nelson find their own lives threatened they realize they must overcome their mutual suspicion, admit their mutual attraction, and work together. Combining their two pieces of the puzzle, they uncover an international financial and political conspiracy involving secret foreign investment, hidden money, hidden profits, and tax fraud. The problem is that this cabal is run by men of such power that they are immune to civil and criminal justice and manage to obstruct the case against them. In their rarefied world things are done, not by law, but by Corporatocracy Rules. With both justice and their own lives on the line, Diana and Nelson abandon legal procedures and resort to desperate measures for extracting justice in and extraordinary fashion.
